Register your child(ren) for OPS Full Steam Ahead Summer Program: If you have not done so already, you need to register your children for Summer Program at Oyerinde Preparatory School, where we are focused on 'Hands-on' experiences that allow students to learn by doing things and solving problems for themselves. It is also known as experiential learning. The general idea behind hands-on learning is that it affords students the opportunity to construct their own knowledge through their experiences. Furthermore, it develops children's psychomotor skills because the hands are directly connected to the brain.
2. Reading: Encourage children to explore different genres of books during the holidays. You can create a mini book club where they can share their thoughts on the stories they read. This not only enhances their literacy skills but also sparks their imagination and creativity.
3. Family Time: Use this holiday period to strengthen family bonds. Plan activities like game nights, movie marathons, decluttering your home or cooking together. Family time helps children feel secure and loved, while also creating lasting memories.
4. Learn to Knit: Introduce kids to a new skill during this holiday. Knitting is one of those skills that can be relaxing and rewarding. Parents and children can both learn the step by step knitting processes together on learning platforms like YouTube. It’s a great way for them to develop fine motor skills and patience. Plus, they can create their own mini scarves, blending creativity with practicality.
5. Learn a Musical Instrument: Encourage children to pick up a musical instrument. Whether it’s a keyboard, guitar, or traditional Nigerian instruments like talking drum, learning music can enhance their cognitive skills and provide a fun outlet for self-expression. You could even organize mini family concerts to showcase their progress!
6. Learn Arts and Crafts: Set up a dedicated space for arts and crafts, where children can explore their creativity. They can work on projects such as painting, sculpting, or making jewelry using traditional fabrics, recycled materials, etc.
