Let’s be honest, screens are winning.

Our kids can scroll, swipe, and skip ads better than some adults can! 😂 But have we stopped to think—what are they losing in the process?

Every day at school, we see it: children who would rather reach for a phone than a book. And it’s not entirely their fault. Screens are colourful, fast-paced, and addictive. Books? Not so much—at first glance.

But here’s the thing: reading builds focus, imagination, and empathy.

Screens keep them entertained. Books help them grow.

That’s why we started our monthly Reading Challenge—to make books exciting again. And you know what? It’s working. Children who didn’t like books are now asking,

"Can I take this home and bring it back tomorrow?"

As a school, we borrow books from the library every month so your child doesn’t need to own a personal shelf at home to participate. All they need is curiosity—and a little encouragement from you. We track what they read, reward their efforts, and create fun spaces for them to share what they’ve learned.

Here’s how you can help at home:

1. Swap 15 minutes of screen time for reading time (even if it’s just before bed)

2. Ask your child what they’re currently reading from the challenge books

3. Read together sometimes—make it a bonding moment

4. Celebrate their progress, no matter how small

Screens may always be around, but books? They build your child from the inside out.

Let’s raise readers. Let’s raise thinkers. Let’s raise ch

ildren who love to learn.
